A moving article published by Chris Price, our Esteemed Chairman

Our son Joe Price was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in May 2008. He was 11 years old at the time and attended Rhoose Primary School. Thanks to the brilliant doctors at Cardiff University Hospital and The Childrens Hospital in Bristol, he had an emergency life-saving operation.

It was a great shock to us all when this condition was diagnosed as he had always been so fit and healthy! Normally, his condition would have been diagnosed at birth, but in Joe's case, he had coped with this condition until his heart could take no more. He recently had an additional operation and will require further surgery at some point, with ongoing treatment lasting indefinitely. We have had so much help and support from the British Heart Foundation, that we feel that we want to give something back. So,my father in-law and I are going to do a walk across Iceland in July to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation, who do so much to help people in our situation. The aim of the BHF is to raise money to help fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease. Many of today's new drugs and treatments might never have been possible without the existence of the BHF. To continue this life-saving work for future generations we need your support. The British Heart Foundation strives for a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease. Before our son became so ill, we had not been aware of just how many people are affected by heart disease. By supporting us with our fundraising, you will be making a big difference to people's lives. We will be walking 68.5km across the wonderful island of Iceland in July 2010, across rivers, up mountains, crossing ravines (I'm not good with heights!) gorges and volcanoes (hoping they don't erupt again!!!) in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Just hope that my dodgy ankles will allow me to do it in the allotted time! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
